Job Description
General Overview:
Under general direction; designs and implements Geographic Information System user applications; provides user support to resolve application needs and usage problems; participates in project group activities.
Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge and abilities listed below.
Completion of a four (4) year degree in computer science or civil engineering, geography/planning or surveying, supplemented by coursework in surveying and topographical map interpretation and two (2) to four (4) years experience as a high level programmer analyst (G.
I.
S.
experience helpful).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of hardware/software program languages & equipment utilized in engineering, geography & planning; department policies & procedures*.
Advanced knowledge of surveying; topographical map interpretation.
Basic knowledge of office practices and procedures.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; interpret technical materials; use calculus; prepare concise and accurate documentation, communicate effectively; gather, collate and classify data; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; develop good rapport with system users; deal with problems involving several variables in a familiar context.
Skill in computer programming.

Job Duties:

user needs and develops, implements, tests and ‘debugs’ computer system applications; monitors application use to determine and provide optimum program efficiency and productivity; assists in the resolution of user questions and problems; prepares technical documentation and user manuals; performs system back-ups within security policy and procedure.
Participates in and/or chairs G.
I.
S.
project subgroup systems meetings to determine system needs, enhancements and on-going operational requirements; consults with system users to develop and implement system standards and quality control for G.
I.
S database formulation; conducts periodic training programs for system users.
Monitors supply inventories and initiates supply orders; produces, verifies and distributes system output.
Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm.
Some evening and weekend work hours may be required.
