THE POSITION
Are you exploring the field of public history and looking for some real-world experience? The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission's Keystone Internship Program provides opportunities to pursue your professional growth and contribute to sharing Pennsylvania's rich heritage with the public.
The Keystone Internship will be between 225-300 hours and last 10 weeks between May 13, 2024 and August 23, 2024.
DESCRIPTION OF WORK Old Economy Village was the third and final home of the German, communal Harmony Society from 1824 until 1905.
The historic site has been owned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania since 1916.
The curatorial intern will take part in the public service of routine care required for a large publicly-owned historic collection of textiles while learning about the fascinating history of a group of immigrants who sought religious freedom in America.
The intern at Old Economy Village will assist the curator with a large textile inventory project in preparation for a forthcoming exhibit and publication.
Tasks include inventory, photography, data entry, cataloging, cleaning, and handling historical textiles.
Work Schedule and Additional Information: Internship (temporary part-time) Work hours are flexible and will be finalized between selected interns and their supervisor.
Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements: You must be currently enrolled, or will be enrolled in a college or university full-time in an undergraduate or graduate program by the start of the internship.
You must be in good academic standing (2.
5 GPA or higher).
Additional Requirements: You must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire.
You must currently be enrolled, or will be enrolled at a college or university undergraduate or graduate program for the Summer 2024 or Fall 2024 academic term by the start of the internship.
You must be able to live in or commute to Ambridge, Pennsylvania.
You must be organized and maintain attention to detail.
You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications (not required): Possess work, academic, or volunteer experience.
Possess experience in education, customer service, collections, or public history.
Currently majoring, minoring, or have a concentration in History, Public History, Museum studies, or Library and Information Sciences.
Working on a Master's degree or higher is preferred.
A prior knowledge of collections care is preferred.
Legal Requirement: This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
