Qualifications:
Valid Ohio teaching certificate or license, and TESOL endorsement issued by the Ohio Department of Education.
Successful BCI and FBI criminal background check.
Relevant teaching experience and/or background knowledge.
Awareness and sensitivity to the challenges, needs, and cultural background(s) of diverse learners.
Knowlege of differentiated instruction, instructional and intervention strategies, and literacy and language based approches to teaching.
Ability to cooperate with, and provide leadership and direction to, teachers, staff, parents, and students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Work collaboratively with colleagues to meet the needs of English learners.
Communicate ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
Plan for appropriate strategies that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students, guiding them toward the goal of fluency in English.
Maintain lesson plans that are relevant to the goals of Warren City Schools and Ohio's English Language Proficiency Standards.
Prepare clear and timely lesson plans.
Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and technology suitable to the level of learners.
Create an environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students.
Collect, evaluate, and discuss data relevant to the needs and accomplishments of English learner students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as requested.
Participate in intervention assistance team meetings as necessary.
Assist with the identification and assessment of potential English learner students and maintain appropriate documentation throughout the process.
Provide support and assistance with the annual Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA) for English learners, as needed.
Provide resource materials for classroom teachers that focus on specific needs of English learner students.
Assist in providing school personnel and parents with information regarding the education needs and characteristics of children who are English learners.
Attend meetings and in-services as required.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with parents through effective use of interim reports, report cards, phone calls, conferences and electronic communications.
Attend parent/teacher conferences.
Maintain accurate and complete records as required, including confidentiality of all records.
Refer students suspected of learning difficulties to the intervention assistance team.
Notify parents if student is not meeting classroom/building/district and/or state goals and expectations.
Abide by all State and Federal Guidelines for all students.
Abide by the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Warren City School District Board of Education pertaining to classroom teachers and the teaching process.
Perform any other relevant duties as may be assigned by the Building Principal or his/her designee.
Salary: Placement on Salary Table A contingent upon degree and prior experience.
