*SUMMARY:* The Catholic Echo Sales Manager is the primary role within the department responsible for the generation and management of revenue.
As such, the person in this position will manage the Catholic Echo’s subscriber database and sell subscriptions to new markets, including religious orders, schools and other Catholic entities.
They will also sell advertising, maintain client relationships and manage freelance Advertising Representatives to hit advertising goals.
The person in this position will also research grants and provide the Editor In Chief with the materials necessary to pursue grant funding.
Candidates should be tech-savvy, highly organized and customer service-oriented.
*PRIMARY DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:*
* Generate revenue for the Catholic Echo by selling subscriptions and advertising, guiding Advertising Representatives and researching grant opportunities.
* Manage the Catholic Echo’s subscription base by managing subscriber data, connecting with subscribers and by selling subscriptions to new markets.
* Sell advertising space in the print magazine and for the Catholic Echo website, diocesan radio/podcasts, video media and events.
Magazine Advertising:
* To sell for special advertising guides in the magazine and set up the guide schedule.
Lead pagination efforts for the magazine and ensure that ads are delivered to the production department within the deadline
* Proofread all ads and coordinate proofreading with customers
* Coordinate ad design with the production department
* Nurture client relationships.
This will include in-person meetings to present advertising and subscription opportunities and negotiate sales.
* Develop and implement sales strategies—for both advertising and subscriptions—to hit sales goals.
* Work with the Editor In Chief to create sales goals for upcoming budget years.
* Research new clients and maintain and organize existing client lists.
* Run reports and be able to discuss or present on sales activities as required.
* Maintain and develop advertising and subscription promo sheets with the production department.
* Create and mail promotional flyers to customers for special sales events.
* Provide billing department with ad and subscription cost information and collect on past-due accounts.
* Coordinate tear-sheets to send via mail or email, depending on client preferences.
* Research grants and other possible revenue sources to for The Catholic Echo.
* Provide Editor In Chief with necessary information so that he/she can write and pursue grant funding.
* Establish a sponsorship system for diocesan media properties.
* Answer phones and ensure client and reader needs are being met.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
*QUALIFICATIONS:*
* Practicing Catholic committed to the mission and values of the Diocese of Youngstown and the Catholic Church.
* A high level of computer proficiency, including comfortability with Microsoft Office and knowledge of or willingness to learn sales management software.
* At least five years of advertising/sales experience.
* A bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
* Good people skills and organization skills.
* Knowledge of magazine business and competing advertising mediums.
* Knowledge of local markets within our six-county area.
* A valid driver’s license and the ability to drive to client meetings within the Diocese.
* Some development experience is a _plus_.
* Background clearance and Safe Environment training _*required*_
