Body Manufacturing Engineer
FSLA Status: Exempt
Location: Lordstown, OH
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Primary Function: Responsible for completing manufacturing engineering tasks to enhance efficiency, create revenue, improve quality and reduce costs throughout the body shop.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Understand the overall concept of the company, including the brand, customer, product goals, and business objectives.
Design, validate, analyze and modify fixtures and material handlers in the body shop to support vertical integration and new program integration (3D simulation desired).
Accept a variety of projects to research, analyze, propose ideas, and implement solutions that improve the quality and efficiency of the body shop.
Engage with engineers, system integrators and maintenance personnel to define process flow, material handling and operating procedures within work cells.
Analyze product drawings, bill of materials and engineering specifications to ensure processes are resulting in the expected level of quality.
Interact with quality personnel to review improvement opportunities and implement corrective actions.
Troubleshoot systems that control robots, welders, dispensers, laser brazing.
Assist the maintenance department with defining, documenting, and implementing preventive maintenance procedures.
Required Education
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field experience.
Required Experience
At least 2 years of related experience in mechanical fixture design.
Requires Skills/Licenses/Certifications
Working knowledge of body processes and principles, including latest technologies
Ability to design and troubleshoot mechanical fixtures utilizing SolidWorks &/or Catia
Basic to working knowledge of PLC programming
Fanuc Robotics experience and Rockwell PLC experience a plus
Working knowledge of dimensional control and statistical analysis
General knowledge of production control / scheduling systems
Ability to analyze and understand electrical and mechanical drawings
Strong analytical / problem-solving skills with respect to manufacturing processes
