Job purpose
Responsible for fitting and welding of steel, aluminum and stainless steel parts using a MIG and/or TIG process, for the smooth running of the production business in the safest most efficient manner possible.
Duties and responsibilities
• Set up welding machines based on the job at hand or using a Welding Procedure Specification
• Read and interpret blueprints and/or drawings to determine the specific welding requirements
• MIG and TIG weld steel, aluminum and stainless steel components based on the specifications
• of the blueprints and/or drawings
• Maintains welds on various items using a variety of processes (manual arc, tungsten inert gas, metallic inert gas, brazing, cement core drilling, sheet metal, steam-fitting, etc.
) for the purpose of ensuring the availability and functioning of required items ensuring safety
• Ensure that equipment is operating properly and safely; take steps to report and repair equipment, internally & externally, with suppliers; troubleshoot machine problems to determine actual faults
• Keep work areas clean and organized and take proper care of all equipment and facilities
• Inspect parts with precision and measuring tools to ensure they meet requirements, customer specifications and within Company Policy
• Test the operation of machines periodically to guarantee proper running, fix issues that might occur during the shift, check output to discover any machine-related mistakes or flaws, keep records of approved and defective units, final products & maintenance schedules, and maintain activity logs
• Study blueprint from work layout to ensure accuracy in production task
• Ensure timely preparation and availability of all production materials to avoid shortage during production
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience:
• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 1 - 2+ years of experience as a welder in a production/manufacturing setting
• Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers, extremely organized
• Experience with steel, aluminum and/or stainless steel required
• Experience with MIG and TIG welding
• Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques
• for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
• Ability to identify, measure material and produce quality products consistently
• Ability to read blueprints, drawings, calipers, tape measures and angle gauges
• Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
• Ability to work independently and as a team member to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices
• Strong attention to details, analytical skills, exceptional judgment, dependable, excellent teamwork skills, good time management skills, creative, problem-solving, hardworking & persistent, professional competence, proactive
• Forklift certification
• Current/active driver’s license
Preferred Education & Experience:
• Associates Degree from a two year college or technical school, or an equivalent combination of education & experience
• 3 - 5+ years of experience as a welder in a production/manufacturing setting
• Welder certification
• Experience with CNC press breaks, CNC folding machines and automatic saws
• Crane certification
Working conditions
Travel 10% of time for meetings at other SSAB locations, deliveries, trainings, seminars & conferences as needed
